nine (for mmm)
it is the square
of a perfect prime,
one more than infinity
forced to stand straight up.
it shoots a longing glance
toward the river
of so many secrets.
it is the intersection
of two importantly dangerous highways.
it is a dark and lonely road.
it is our home.

I just printed this out to put in the box of poems I'm accumulating for my son this year. (http://haikuproject.wordpress.com/2010/09/17/365-poems/) He's a math fiend and also appreciates riddles. And good writing. :)
Thanks for this one.
Thank you for the kind words. I chose "nine" because it is the house number of our street address, but because it has so many interesting attributes. Did you know that the sum of the digits of any multiple of nine is divisible by nine (e.g. 111,111,111)? Only a true geek would find that as fascinating as I do.
