    wolf moon —
    the dog
    won’t come in

    wolf moon —
    I wonder what my dog
    sees in me

    wolf moon —

    the stillness

    Dream Sequence - Part 14

    You walked into the room
    just as I began
    to shave off my beard,
    blank and sleepy-eyed
    but somehow fascinated.
    I flashed a tired grin
    and continued my work.
    Finally you spoke:
    “You’re leaving us.”
“What do you mean?” I replied.
    “Just because I’m shaving
I have to have some sinister purpose?”
    “No,” she said,
“the two don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand,
but in this case they do.”
    Wise ass.
I shrugged at my reflection in the mirror.
    “I truly am just shaving.”
    And that was that.
    She went back to bed.
I was gone within the hour.

    Dream Sequence - Part 13

You and I were coming to the end of a long journey — in a school bus. I had fallen asleep using the dog as a pillow, but she didn’t seem to mind much until we had to stop. Rubbing the sleep from our eyes, we stepped out of the bus and lingered in the court yard. I was five minutes late for my 1:00 class. I had walked in later than that before, but today it was different. Not that I cared much about disturbing the class, but rather I didn’t want to betray the moment...

    Dream Sequence - Part 12

We were near the end of a vacation with multiple destinations. Today we were at a crowded beach, playing badminton. Quite by accident, my racket struck a seagull, knocking it out of the air. Horrified, I watched it hobble over the rocks, away from the crowds. There, a Good Samaritan picked it up, declaring “it’s just a shoulder dislocation.” She tugged on a wing, and that was that. The gull flew away. Moments later I was in an inner tube, floating on the water.

    Moderation is overrated

Moderation is overrated, but I’m tired of dealing with spam. Rather than closing my blog to comments, I’m reluctantly subjecting my dwindling but deeply cherished readership to this tedious but unfortunately necessary process.

    Dream Sequence - Part 11

    I came to visit
    totally unannounced
    aware of the risks
    but somehow believing
    I would be a hero.
    Your family loved me.
    You were mortified.
We had barely a minute to ourselves.
    “How could you?” you asked.
    “How couldn’t I?” I replied.
    When your mother asked
where I was staying that night
    I took the high road
    and bid everyone farewell.
    Then, a long silence.
    “I shouldn’t have come here.”
    No one disagreed.
